Updated 26 October 2026

This Komodo private boat charter FAQ answers 60 questions about the four Akassa phinisi: which boat fits 10 or 18 guests, what the whole boat costs from IDR 45,000,000 (≈ USD 2,761), where the light is best, drone rules, dates and booking. Anything not answered here we confirm in writing before you pay.

Ask a question

Seven groups, from boat choice to booking

Sixty questions, in seven groups. Boats and party size come first, then cost and what the fare covers. Third are dates, seasons and access, and fourth is filming rules and cameras. Fifth is light at Padar, Kalong and Pink Beach, sixth is what is on board and what to pack, and last is your booking and changes.

The boats in one line: parties of up to 10 sail on Akassa Cruise, Derya or Giona, and 11 to 18 on Semesta Voyages. Giona has the lowest price, Derya and Akassa Cruise give more space, and Akassa Cruise, with 3 suites, is the most private.

Light in one line: Padar at first light, Kalong at dusk, the other stops in the morning. Sunrise at Padar falls between 05:31 and 06:18 through the year, and sunset between 17:49 and 18:27. No hour of light is guaranteed, and the captain sets the order of stops on the day.

Boat details and fares follow the rate card dated 26 October 2026, and policy lines follow our terms. Park rules and permit details are confirmed in writing for your date before you pay.

Boats and party size

Do I want a private boat or a Friday seat?

A private boat if the hour of light matters more than the price per head: the route, the pace and the date are yours, from IDR 38,000,000 (≈ USD 2,331) for the whole of Giona. A Friday seat, from IDR 4,600,000 (≈ USD 282) per person, shares the 3D2N route with other guests on a fixed date. We sell no day trips.

Can friends split one private boat?

Yes, because the whole boat is one fare: ten guests on Giona share IDR 52,000,000 (≈ USD 3,190) for 3D2N, which is IDR 5,200,000 (≈ USD 319) each.

Can I add guests after I book a private charter?

Akassa Cruise, Derya and Giona stop at 10 guests, so a bigger party moves to Semesta Voyages. It prices 1 to 12 guests flat and adds IDR 5,000,000 (≈ USD 307) per guest from the 13th to the 18th on 3D2N. Tell us the head count before you pay.

Which boat takes a party of 12?

Semesta Voyages. One flat fare applies to any party from 1 to 12: IDR 106,000,000 (≈ USD 6,503) for 3D2N, or IDR 8,830,000 (≈ USD 542) each. Derya and Giona do not take 11 or 12 guests.

How does a private trip differ from a Friday departure?

A private trip is the whole boat on a date you pick, with the guide and documentation on request. A Friday departure sells seats per person on a fixed date and includes the local guide and photo and video documentation. A Friday date runs once its minimum cabins are booked: 2, or 3 on Giona.

How many guests does each boat take?

Akassa Cruise, Derya and Giona take up to 10 guests each, and Semesta Voyages takes up to 18. That is 3, 4, 4 and 8 cabins, 19 in all.

How do the four boats differ?

Up to 10 guests, Giona has the lowest price. Derya gives more space with 4 cabins and the Padar VIP Suite, which has a balcony and a bathtub. Akassa Cruise has 3 suites and is the most private. Semesta Voyages has 8 suites, takes up to 18 and has Starlink.

Is a sailing trip in the park worth the days it takes?

For light, yes. Two days put Padar at first light and Kalong at dusk in one sailing, with the boat as the base for both. No one can promise a clear sky, and the route is an example the captain adjusts. The 3D2N route gives the widest range of stops.

Is it worth going to Komodo Island itself?

The stop is a ranger-led trek of about 2 hours from Loh Liang. The dragons are wild, and a sighting is never guaranteed. On the example route it is a morning stop in high, bright light, so take it for the animals more than for the pictures.

What does a whole boat in Labuan Bajo cost?

From IDR 38,000,000 (≈ USD 2,331), the 2D1N fare for the whole of Giona. For 3D2N the whole boat runs from IDR 45,000,000 (≈ USD 2,761) on Giona to IDR 106,000,000 (≈ USD 6,503) on Semesta Voyages. Each fare covers the boat and the crew for the route, and park fees are extra.

Which boat is the most private for a couple?

Akassa Cruise, with 3 suites for up to 10 guests. Laut Legendary Suite has a private balcony, a private bathroom and a jacuzzi. For two guests, a Friday seat in Bumi Deluxe Suite or the whole boat on a private charter are the two ways to book it.

Cost and what the fare covers

What does a Komodo Island trip cost per person?

Divide the whole-boat fare by your party. Ten guests on Giona for 3D2N pay IDR 5,200,000 (≈ USD 319) each, and ten on Akassa Cruise pay IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479) each. A Friday seat starts at IDR 4,600,000 (≈ USD 282). Park fees are extra.

What does 2 days and 1 night cost?

For the whole boat, 2D1N starts at IDR 38,000,000 (≈ USD 2,331) on Giona and IDR 54,000,000 (≈ USD 3,313) on Derya, with park fees, flights and tips on top.

What does the 3D2N fare cover?

The boat and crew, air-conditioned cabins, three meals a day, water, coffee and tea, an afternoon snack and juice, snorkeling gear, a paddle board and harbor pickup. A guide and documentation are on request on a private charter. Park tickets and ranger fees are never included.

Do I pay the park ticket on top of the boat?

Yes. Foreign guests pay IDR 250,000 per day. Indonesian guests pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 on weekends and public holidays.

Should I carry cash for the park?

Carry rupiah. Entry is bought online in SiORA, while ranger and pier levies and tips are paid on the day in cash. ATMs are in town and at the airport, and none are on the islands. We confirm in writing how your party pays before the deposit.

Does the fare cover getting around Labuan Bajo?

Pickup and drop-off at the harbor is in the fare, and pickup from your hotel, the airport or the harbor is free in both directions. A larger vehicle for a big party is quoted as its own line.

Should I tip the crew on a private boat?

A tip is appreciated, not compulsory, and it sits outside the fare. We set no figure. Give it to the captain at the end, to share with the crew.

What does it cost to charter a phinisi for 4 people?

Four guests pay a whole-boat fare in the 1 to 4 band for 3D2N: IDR 45,000,000 (≈ USD 2,761) on Giona, IDR 62,000,000 (≈ USD 3,804) on Derya or IDR 70,000,000 (≈ USD 4,294) on Akassa Cruise.

What does a 3 day 2 night package cost for two?

Two guests in Giona's cheapest cabin on a Friday departure pay IDR 4,600,000 (≈ USD 282) each, and a Giona date runs once 3 cabins are booked. The whole of Giona for two costs IDR 45,000,000 (≈ USD 2,761), which buys the boat, the route and your own timing.

Dates, seasons and access

Where does the boat spend the night?

That depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day. The captain also decides the order of stops and the anchorage on the day, and no hour of light is guaranteed.

Is Komodo Island open on my dates?

We confirm your date in writing. If a harbor or park order stops the boat, we offer a phinisi of equal or higher standard on the same date at no extra cost, or a full refund within 14 days.

How many days do I need in Komodo?

Two days is the shortest we sell. 3D2N adds Taka Makassar and Kanawa to Padar, Komodo, Pink Beach and Manta Point. 4D3N adds Gili Lawa Darat, Sebayur, Rangko Cave and Bidadari. The order of stops is an example, and the captain decides on the day.

Will I see a Komodo dragon?

Treks at Komodo Island are ranger-led and the dragons are wild, so a sighting is never guaranteed.

How long is the stop at Komodo Island?

About 2 hours from Loh Liang, on a ranger-led trek. On the example route it is a morning stop after breakfast.

Is there a Komodo day trip from Bali?

Our shortest sailing is 2D1N from Labuan Bajo harbor, so fly from Bali, about 1 hour 10 minutes, and land the day before.

Do you run a Komodo tour that starts in Lombok?

No, every route starts and ends at Labuan Bajo harbor, which Lombok reaches by a flight of about 1 hour.

How do I reach Komodo from Lombok?

Fly from Lombok to Labuan Bajo, then board at the harbor from 10:00 on a private charter, with Komodo Island a stop on every route.

Should we see the dragons on Komodo Island or on Rinca?

Our routes call at Komodo Island, the largest park island, with ranger-led treks from Loh Liang. Rinca is the second largest, with treks from Loh Buaya, and it is not on our routes. Ask us if you want it considered, and the captain says what the day allows.

Filming, drones and cameras

Does a drone flight need anything beyond the park ticket?

Yes: a SIMAKSI permit applied for in advance, then a daily drone ticket bought after approval. The drone rules guide lists the permit, the zones and the fee. Kalong, Komodo Island and Rinca are no-fly zones, and we never promise drone footage.

How far ahead do I apply for the drone permit?

Apply 4 to 7 days ahead for the SIMAKSI permit, and expect 2 to 5 working days for the park to evaluate it. Apply on siora.id. The daily drone ticket comes after the permit is approved.

Who applies for the drone permit?

The permit and the daily ticket are applied for through SiORA, and who files the application is settled with us in writing before you pay. We never promise drone footage.

Which stops allow a drone, and which never do?

With a permit and the daily ticket: Padar, Pink Beach for coastal flyovers, Gili Lawa Darat, Taka Makassar and Manta Point with care. Never: Kalong, Komodo Island, Rinca, bird nesting areas, crowds and night.

What does the park do about an unpermitted drone?

Confiscation, a fine and removal from the park. Enforcement is tighter at Padar.

Can the boat's guide fly a drone for us?

We do not sell drone footage on these four boats. On a private charter the guide and documentation are on request and quoted separately, and we never promise drone footage.

Can I film a documentary or a commercial shoot?

A documentary or commercial shoot uses a different SIMAKSI category from a tourist permit, with more paperwork. PP 36/2024 also lists a pre-wedding shoot fee. We do not sell commercial-shoot charters, so ask the park before you plan one.

What helps most when photographing Komodo?

The hour. Padar at first light and Kalong at dusk are the two frames to build a day around. Brace on a rail, keep a cloth for salt and carry a power bank. The photographing-from-a-boat guide has the kit list.

Is there Wi-Fi on the boats?

Three boats, Akassa Cruise, Derya and Giona, have local Wi-Fi, not satellite. Semesta Voyages has Starlink satellite internet. We promise no speed on any boat.

Where do I plug in a camera battery?

A cabin charging point is not promised on any of the four boats. Bring a power bank per phone and a spare battery per camera, charged at the hotel the night before.

Light at Padar, Kalong and Pink Beach

What is the climb at Padar like?

A moderate climb of about 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint, on a path that is loose and steep in parts. Sturdy shoes with grip matter, and so does a head torch for the dark start. There are no dragons on Padar. You spend about 90 minutes at the stop.

When do I leave the boat for a Padar sunrise?

About 65 minutes before sunrise. Sunrise at Padar falls between 05:31 and 06:18 through the year, so the hour moves, and the crew sets the wake-up call the evening before.

Will the ridge be full at sunrise?

Sunrise is the slot most boats aim for, and Padar is busiest in July, August and December. Leave the boat about 65 minutes before sunrise to reach the viewpoint ahead of the first light.

Do I need to be fit for Padar?

Moderate fitness is enough for the climb of about 25 to 45 minutes, and if someone cannot climb, the boat stays at anchor and the morning goes on.

What happens to the hike in rain?

A wet slope is slower and slipperier, so the ranger and the captain decide on the day, and no hour of light is guaranteed.

Who books the Padar entry session?

We do. The park ticket is booked against your itinerary date, and the Padar session for that date is confirmed in writing before you pay. For a sunrise frame, ask for the first session of the day.

Do the Kalong bats leave every evening?

They leave the mangroves at dusk, about 15 minutes after sunset, in a long stream over about 30 minutes. We cannot promise a given night, because weather and the roost decide it. Sunset falls between 17:49 and 18:27 through the year.

Is a phone enough for the Kalong bats?

A phone gives you a wide frame of the stream and a short clip. A camera with reach gives you the close shot, and a charged battery helps. Drones are not allowed at Kalong.

Is the sand at Pink Beach pink?

Pale pink, not bright pink. The tint comes from red coral fragments in the sand, and the color shifts with light and tide. Morning gives the softest light, and on the example route the stop comes after Komodo, in stronger sun.

How long do we stay at Pink Beach?

About 90 minutes, with snorkeling. The sand is pale pink from red coral fragments, and on the example route the stop comes after Komodo.

How long is the stop at Manta Point?

About 60 minutes. Currents are strong, so a life jacket is advised, and manta sightings are not guaranteed.

On board and packing

What should I pack?

Shoes with grip for Padar and Kelor, a head torch, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, cash for tips, personal medicines, power banks and a dry bag. Fins if you want your own. The boats carry snorkeling equipment and floaties.

Is a guide included on a private charter?

No. On a private charter the guide and the photo and video documentation are on request and quoted separately. The Friday departure includes the local guide and documentation.

Do I need travel insurance for the boat?

It is strongly recommended for every guest: medical cover with emergency evacuation, plus cancellation and belongings. It is not in the fare.

How strong is the sun on deck?

Strong, with little cover at midday and glare off the sea, so wear a hat and reef-safe sunscreen.

Your booking and changes

How do I start a booking?

Send us your party size, dates, the light you want and a boat, or ask us to choose, on WhatsApp. We reply with a boat and a fare in writing. A 50% deposit holds the date, and the balance is due 30 days before departure.

How do I check that my booking is in order?

Pay against an invoice that names the company, the boat, the route, the dates and the party. Ours comes from PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, NIB 1805260128363. Keep every confirmation in writing, including the pickup time.

What if the weather turns?

The captain changes the route for safety and moves to a sheltered anchorage at no extra charge. No hour of light is guaranteed. If the boat cannot sail at all, the replacement-boat terms apply.

Can we end a private charter early?

Yes, the boat can return to Labuan Bajo early, and our terms list no refund for days you skip once you have sailed.

What if my trip is called off?

A breakdown, a port order or a park order that stops the boat gets you a phinisi of equal or higher standard on the same date at no extra cost. You can take a full refund within 14 days instead.

What does a holiday in Labuan Bajo cost?

Add the lines. The boat is IDR 45,000,000 (≈ USD 2,761) for the whole of Giona on 3D2N, or a Friday seat from IDR 4,600,000 (≈ USD 282). Park fees, flights, hotel nights, tips and insurance sit outside every fare. We quote the boat and list the rest.
