Kelor Island hike and the view over the bay

Updated 26 October 2026

Kelor Island hike and view: a small hilly islet close to Labuan Bajo with a short climb to a bay viewpoint, about 60 minutes at the stop. On the 3D2N route it is the first stop of day 1 after boarding at 10:00, so the light is high, not golden. Park tickets are never in the fare.

Kelor comes before lunch on day 1

Boarding is at 10:00 at the Labuan Bajo harbor. Kelor is the first named stop on the 2D1N, 3D2N and 4D3N routes. The islet is about an hour by boat from the harbor.

Do the sum. You reach the hill in late morning, with the sun high and the light white, and the colors in the bay are strong while the sky stays flat. Shadows are short.

That is the honest hour for Kelor on the route. It is a warm-up climb, not the light stop of the trip. Padar owns the sunrise and Kalong owns the dusk.

The hill: 15 to 30 minutes up, one bay below

Kelor is a small, hilly islet near Labuan Bajo. A short, steep hill leads to a viewpoint over the bay. Difficulty is moderate and the climb takes 15 to 30 minutes.

It is not a long trek, and not a dragon site. Nothing here needs a ranger-led plan. The path is dry and steep, so shoes with grip matter more than fitness.

The view is a bay seen from a ridge, with the boat in the frame and the islands behind it. Take the wide frame first. The boat on the water gives the picture its scale.

Take your time on the way down. Loose dirt on a dry slope slides faster than it looks.

Kelor at golden hour: what the route allows

The route does not reach Kelor at golden hour. It lands at midday light, and a sunrise at Kelor is not on any of the three routes.

A different order is possible only if the captain moves the plan. Ask us when you book, and we pass it on and confirm in writing. We do not promise it.

If low sun on a hill is your picture, Padar is the better stop and day 2 starts with it. Gili Lawa Darat on the 4D3N route is the other hilltop, with sunrise as its best window.

No hour of light is guaranteed on any stop. Cloud and haze move the plan.

Shoes with grip and water

The packing list for Kelor is short. Shoes with grip. Water. A hat. Bring your passport or ID for boarding, too, since the day starts at the harbor.

Kelor is a park stop. Park tickets and ranger fees come on top of the fare. International guests pay IDR 250,000 for the ticket, and Indonesian guests pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays. The park fees page has the rest.

Lunch on board follows the climb. Manjarite, the afternoon snorkel stop, comes after it. Carry a small bag: you take it up the hill and down again, and a big one swings on the steep part.
