Taka Makassar sandbar photography at low tide
Updated 26 October 2026
Taka Makassar sandbar photography depends on the tide: the crescent-shaped sandbank inside shallow reef is visible mainly at low tide, and the stop lasts about 60 minutes. On the 3D2N route it opens day 3; on 4D3N it comes after Pink Beach on day 2.
A sandbank the tide decides
Taka Makassar is a crescent of sand inside a ring of shallow reef. It is visible mainly at low tide. At high tide it can sit underwater, and nobody should walk out on it then.
Tide times change every day. We confirm them on the day, and the captain sets the order of stops around them.
The reef around the sand is 1 to 5 meters deep with a mild current, so the water suits most snorkelers. Shade on the sand is thin. Bring a hat and water, and reef-safe sunscreen.

Day 3 on three nights, day 2 on four
On the 3D2N route Taka Makassar opens day 3, right after breakfast on board. Kanawa follows, then lunch, then check-out by 14:00. The tight finish caps the time here, so the stop gets its 60 minutes and no more. A late tide does not buy extra minutes, because the harbor check-out does not move.
On the 4D3N route it moves to day 2, between Pink Beach and Manta Point. The example route puts it late in the day, in afternoon light.
It is not on the 2D1N route. A 2 day trip ends before it, and the sandbank is a reason to book three days.
Taka Makassar and Manta Point can swap places on the day when tide and current ask for it. The captain decides the order, and our routes are examples.

Drone: permit and ticket first
The park rule allows a drone at Taka Makassar, with conditions. You need a SIMAKSI permit and a daily drone ticket, applied for in advance. The park ticket does not cover a drone.
We never promise drone footage. Who files the permit is confirmed in writing before you pay, and the drone rules guide carries the rule and the no-fly zones.
From a private phinisi
The captain picks the anchorage off the reef, and the tender takes guests to the sand. Snorkeling equipment, floaties and a stand-up paddle are on board on all four boats.
On a private charter your party sets the pace on the sandbank. A walk along the crescent, a swim in the shallows and a long frame back at the boat fit inside the 60 minutes.
The sandbank is quiet at low tide and gone at high tide. Low tide is the picture. Ask us for the tide on your date, and the captain confirms the plan on the day.
A local guide and photo or video documentation are not included on a private charter. Both are on request, quoted separately.
FAQ
When is Taka Makassar visible?
Mainly at low tide. At high tide the sandbank can sit underwater. Tide times change every day, so we confirm them on the day, and the captain moves the stop around the tide. The stop lasts about 60 minutes.
Is Taka Makassar on the 2D1N route?
No. It opens day 3 on the 3D2N route and sits on day 2 of the 4D3N route, between Pink Beach and Manta Point. A 2 day trip does not reach it.
Can we fly a drone at Taka Makassar?
The park rule allows one with conditions: a SIMAKSI permit and a daily drone ticket, applied for in advance. We never promise drone footage. We tell you in writing who files the permit, and the drone rules guide has the sources.
Can we walk on the sandbar?
At low tide, yes. At high tide it may be underwater, and you should not walk there. The captain and crew read the tide on the day. Bring a hat and water, because the sand has little shade.
