Inside a Komodo phinisi: Derya's sun deck and cabins

Updated 26 October 2026

Inside a Komodo phinisi like Derya, a sun deck sits on the teak bow under a white sail awning, a saloon seats the party at a wooden dining table, and four cabins, two on the upper deck and two below, take up to 10 guests. This is the walk, in that order, photo by photo.

Walking Derya in boarding order

Derya is one of the four boats we book: a two-masted phinisi with four cabins and a ceiling of 10 guests. I've built this walk-through from the photo set, so you can check almost every line against a picture. You won't find measurements here, because we give none. Where the photo set has no picture, I say so.

I take it in the order a guest does. Bow and sun deck first, then the saloon, the two upper-deck cabins, the two lower-deck cabins and the one bathroom photograph. From the air the hull is dark under a white upper structure, with two masts, and in several frames a speedboat trails behind on a line.

Derya has four cabins and a private-charter ceiling of 10 guests. On board are a sundeck area with lazy chairs, karaoke and multimedia, a stand-up paddle board, snorkeling equipment, floaties, a tender and canoes. That is the full list.

The bow and the sun deck

In the photographs, the teak bow is the sun deck. Low daybeds and floor cushions in white and gray sit around a small wooden lattice box that works as a table. A white sail awning stretches overhead, and a life ring hangs from the line beside it. A second ring hangs on the right. White railings run along both sides.

A second frame looks past the rail at a small green island and other boats at anchor. A third shows a gray cushioned chair and a folding table on the side deck. Derya calls it a sundeck area with lazy chairs, and I'll go no further.

Up at the bow you sit on teak, under cloth, at deck height. Which way you face depends on how the captain anchors, so the light direction is decided on the day.

In the aerial frames the roof of the deck above the saloon carries more furniture. No photograph shows that roof close up, so it stays off this walk.

The saloon

Aft of the bow the photographs go indoors. A wooden dining table runs down the middle of the saloon, laid with plates, glasses and tan napkins on a black and white patterned runner. White bench seats are built along both window walls, and black chairs stand at the ends.

Windows run along both sides, with roller blinds above them and the harbor beyond. The ceiling beams are painted white, with recessed lights between them. In one frame I can see a wooden counter at the far end of the room.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner come from the boat kitchen, with free-flow mineral water, coffee and tea and an afternoon snack. There's no photo of the kitchen or the crew, so I leave both out. The saloon is where the party eats together, and the photographs show the table laid for a meal.

Upper deck, the Padar and Komodo suites

Padar VIP Suite is the one with the balcony. The photographs show a double bed with a dark headboard, three small black and white frames above it and a wall air conditioner. A bench with storage sits at the foot of the bed. Black roller blinds run along a wall of windows facing the water. Towels are folded into flower shapes on the bed, and a wooden breakfast tray stands on it.

The floor in these photographs is pale wood, with a patterned rug by the bed. Through sliding glass doors a freestanding white bathtub sits on the balcony's teak floor, with a black tap, facing the harbor. The suite has a double bed plus two extra beds, up to 4 guests, a private bathroom, a private balcony and the bathtub, on the upper deck.

Komodo Private Suite is also on the upper deck. Its photographs show a double bed beside a window with a harbor view, a wooden open shelf unit next to the bed and a white paneled door. It has a double bed plus an extra bed, up to 3 guests and a private bathroom, and no balcony.

Lower deck and the one bathroom photo

Rinca Private Suite is on the lower deck, for 2 guests. Three photographs show a double bed along the wall, white beams low overhead, a small round porthole, a wall air conditioner and one large framed print. The room is plain and white. It has no balcony.

Kanawa Private Suite is the other lower-deck cabin for 2 guests. I have no photograph of it. One more lower-deck photo shows a bed set into an alcove, with a ladder beside it and a porthole above. It carries no suite name, so it stays unassigned.

The single bathroom photograph is not labeled by cabin. It shows a narrow room with white walls and gray veining. A hand shower hangs on a wall hook, a toilet has a bidet hose, and two black soap dispensers sit beside a round porthole. The photo set does not say which cabin it belongs to.
