Komodo 2 day private boat trip, with sunrise at Padar

Updated 26 October 2026

A Komodo 2 day private boat trip with sunrise at Padar also fits Kalong at dusk into 2D1N. The whole boat starts at IDR 38,000,000 (≈ USD 2,331) for up to 5 guests on Giona. Semesta Voyages takes parties of 11 to 18. Boarding is at 10:00.

Two days, ordered by the light

Two days leave room for one sunset and one sunrise. The route spends both well.

  • 1. Board at Labuan Bajo harbor from 10:00, then Kelor.
  • 2. Lunch on board, then a snorkel stop at Manjarite.
  • 3. Dusk at Kalong: flying foxes leave the mangroves.
  • 4. Day 2, first light: the Padar ridge, east-facing.
  • 5. Komodo Island with a ranger, then Pink Beach.
  • 6. Manta Point, then back at the harbor, check-out by 14:00.

Day 1 is short and soft. Kelor is a short climb to a bay viewpoint, and the sun is high. Manjarite is the swim. Kalong is the picture: thousands of flying foxes leaving a mangrove islet at dusk, watched from the deck.

Day 2 is long. Padar comes first, then breakfast, Komodo, lunch, Pink Beach and Manta Point. Sightings at Manta Point are not guaranteed.

Read the order as a plan, not a promise. The captain settles stops and anchorage on the day, weather first.

Times show an example day, not a timetable. Boarding from 10:00 on a private charter is the fixed point.

The trade you make with two days

Two days buy one sunset and one sunrise. They do not buy a second chance at either.

Taka Makassar and Kanawa are not on this route. The sandbank and the white-sand reef belong to the 3 day plan. If those two frames matter, read the 3D2N page before you pay.

Day 2 carries four stops and a harbor deadline. Padar is at first light, Komodo is a ranger-led trek of about 2 hours, and Pink Beach arrives after it, well past low sun. The color of the sand is paler at that hour. Better you hear it now than see it on the day.

What you gain is a lower fare and a trip that fits a weekend between two flights.

The hour: sunrise at Padar, dusk at Kalong

Two lines carry this route. Both are about direction as much as time.

  • Padar · first light · the sun comes from the east, over the ridge · climb 25 to 45 minutes, head torch and shoes with grip
  • Kalong · dusk · the sun sets in the west, behind the boat · flying foxes leave the mangroves, no landing

Sunrise at Padar runs from 05:31 to 06:18 across the year. In July it is about 06:18, and in November about 05:31. Sunset at Kalong runs from 17:49 to 18:27. Leave the boat for Padar about an hour before the sun.

Kalong is watched from the boat. A drone is not allowed there, and flying one elsewhere needs a park permit and a daily ticket. We never promise drone footage.

No hour of light is guaranteed. Cloud and haze decide what you get at each of these two stops.

When to add the third day

If you want a sandbank at low tide and a second dusk, book 3D2N. With a weekend and one sunrise to chase, two days are enough.

The 3 day route adds Taka Makassar and Kanawa, and it ends at the same 14:00 check-out. It also gives day 2 its own evening, so Pink Beach and Manta Point stop being the last thing before the harbor.

Compare the two on the 3D2N page, then send us your party size. We answer with the boat that fits the head count and the whole-boat fare for each length. Pick the length by the hours of light you want, not by how many stops you can name.

FAQ

How many sunrises and sunsets fit into a 2 day Komodo trip?

One of each is built into the route. Kalong at dusk closes day 1, and Padar at first light opens day 2. The route has no second sunrise or sunset. The captain decides the order of stops on the day, and cloud or haze can flatten either hour.

What time do we board on a private charter?

Boarding is at the Labuan Bajo harbor from 10:00. Free pickup in Labuan Bajo covers your hotel or the airport. On day 2, check-out is by 14:00 at the harbor, so book flights that leave after it.

Is a 2D1N trip rushed?

Day 1 is easy. Day 2 is long: Padar, Komodo, Pink Beach and Manta Point before a 14:00 check-out. If you want time at each stop and a spare hour of light, the 3D2N route gives day 2 its own evening and a calm third day.

Which boat suits 11 to 18 guests on 2D1N?

Semesta Voyages, the only boat above 10 guests. It has 8 suites. The whole boat for 2D1N starts at IDR 83,000,000 (≈ USD 5,092), and each guest from the 13th to the 18th adds IDR 4,000,000 (≈ USD 245). Akassa Cruise, Derya and Giona stop at 10.

Is the Padar climb included on day 2?

The climb is on the route as the first stop of day 2. The park ticket and ranger fees are not in the fare: IDR 250,000 for international guests and IDR 50,000 for Indonesian guests on weekdays. Climb time is 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint.
